Hollands starting to show versatility
Hollands starting to show versatility

Danny Hollands’ two goal salvo on Saturday demonstrated another string to his bow.

The former Chelsea reserve skipper has always had spectacular long range goals in his armoury but two close range headers were not something that would have been anticipated.

Hollands is a much more expansive player than Jose Semedo was. He can break play up and pass the ball short but is also capable of getting forward and creating opportunities for others, something that Semedo could not do.

Hollands’ partnership with Dale Stephens will be a key factor in Charlton’s season. The pair compliment each other superbly, with Stephens being able to tackle as well as create.

Hollands’ left-footedness also helps balance the side.

Elsewhere, it was disappointing to see Peter Reeid ousted at Plymouth. These are desperate days for the Devon side and they have lost their last eight league games.

Reid sold some personal memorabilia to help pay the players as well as paying an overdue heating bill last year.

He was sacked by Peter Ridsdale, who has previously presided over chaos at Leeds and Cardiff. If Ridsdale had someone with a proven track record up his sleeve the decision to sack Reid would make some sense, but to get rid of him and install two of the playing staff to oversee events is sheer folly.

Fans of the Pilgrims will have real fears that their club can survive at the moment.
